This morning started out at about 6:15 with mom yelling down the stairs “are you up yet?!” Even the pups looked up at me like is she for real? Doesn’t she know this is way too early for us to be up?
I got to the airport just in time to be completely aggravated. I got to the Delta self check in kiosk and was told I have to see an attendant. The “too see an attendant” line was literally not moving and 20 people deep. Awesome. I told some guy that worked there that my flight was at 8:30 and he then proceeded to move me and a family traveling to Egypt to another line. Sweet. Then the guy behind the counter yelled and us and told us to get back in line and that this was not the line we were supposed to be in. Didn’t we know any better after being told to be in the other line? Super. Now I have lost my place in line and more people have joined the line. Luckily by 7:50 a nice worker took me and the family to another line and checked us in. My bag was 13 lbs overweight and the fee was $150. I proceeded to curse. Are they for real? Highway robbery. Luckily I had a duffel bag that a friend suggested I take and I shoved a bunch of stuff in and then checked that in. They let me check in 5 lbs overweight. That was the smartest move they could have made. I am gone for a month and you want me to pack how little?
Once on the plane, I got to sit next to a lovely woman who was either clutching her purse the whole time, or down the aisle talking to her traveling buddies. No joke, at least 7 times before we even took off. She then bumped me numerous times. I kept my headphones on and magazine up. At least it wasn’t a crying baby.
I arrived at JFK with ears intact and attitude slightly peeved. I have had lunch at Sabarro; a beer at chili’s, bought some unnecessary candy, eyeing the dunkin donuts shop for later, and is contemplating a Brookstone neck pillow. But right now I am at my gate watching people leave for Istanbul. 7 people have showed up AFTER the final boarding call and gates have been closed. All are shocked that this is happening. Really? First time flying? I am also eyeing a large family with 3 babies and 3 under 5, just knowing that I will either be right next to them or they will be behind me kicking my seat. Because that is my kind of luck. We all know this. Nothing new.
I am going to continue to people watch, maybe take Mindi’s suggestion and find a hot guy to talk to, not one with a boil and then walk around some more. Best to keep the legs moving. Next time I am in NYC will be the 4th of July and I am getting out of the airport because I have a 12 hour layover and won’t be rushed. Yippee. I might even take Lalos’s suggestion and go to the beach. I have never done the in NY. Good suggestion.
Oh and I realized that while I am sitting here typing all this up, I have my ear phones in and no music playing. Tee hee. It’s going to be a long day/night!
Also how do you work wifi?
